Abstract: A reference text for clinicians, pharmacologists, and physicians provides summaries of the human in vivo interactions of drug with other medications. The text assumes a basic understanding of pharmacological and physiological principles, and delineates current knowledge on the mechanisms of drug-drug interaction, clinical significance, and precautions to be exercised during drug therapy. The drug-drug interactions are arranged by drug or drug class, but, when appropriate, interactions for a given drug may be given in several locations in the text. All of the drug-drug interaction covered have been assigned to 1 of 3 categories of clinical significance (viz., major, moderate, or minor) based on the severity of the potential interaction. The interactions are listed under 16 drug categories: antiarrhythmics, oral anticogulants, general anticoagulants, antidiabetics, antihypertensive, anti-infective, anti-neoplastic, digitalis drug, diuretics, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricylic antidepressants, and drug interactions with ethanol, hormones, phenothiazine, and salicylate.
