Marxism in the Modern World
Milorad M. (Editor) Drachkovitch (Author)Not mentioned as well are Trotskyism, Milovan Djilas' critique of Soviet communism, the failed Communist uprising in Germany in 1923, the role of the USSR and the CP in the Spanish Civil War, (much to my personal disappointment), and the counter-revolutionary uprisings in Hungary and East Germany in 1956. These omissions are hard to understand as they pertain directly to Marxism's political evolution and the role of theory vs. practice in real world politics.
Published by Stanford University's Hoover Institution in 1965, Marxism in the Modern World shows how even by the 1960's the tide of history was moving against the notion that Lenin and his successors in the Soviet CP were the only true interpreters of Marx's and Engels' theories and writings.
Even so, this is still a good book and well worth the effort to obtain and read.
